ABOUT NICK OLIVIER

Chief Facilitative Educationist


Leading from the front is Nick Olivier himself. He has vast knowledge of the South African Police Service, Criminal Justice Environment, Education in Southern Africa, Research and Evaluation, Investigation of Crime and Assessment and Moderation of Detectives, Forensics Investigators, and related Research projects.


Nick is a registered Assessor, since November 2005 and Moderator, since March 2009, with Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) against various Unit Standards and is also a registered facilitator for the Occupational Certificate: Fraud Examiner (SAQA 101868) at Forensic Academy Africa (Pty) Ltd, an accredited Skills Development Provider at the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) – QCTOSDP01190829-1792.


Educational project management and content development have been one of the focus areas since 2008. He played a pivotal role in developing the content towards the National Certificate Resolving of Crime on NQF level 5 (SAQA ID 59989) in 2008 and the Occupational Certificate Detective on NQF level 6 (SAQA ID 118211). He currently plays an integral role in the continued advance towards excellence in the development of the National Certificate Forensic Science on NQF level 5 (SAQA ID 57651), the National Certificate Forensic Biology on NQF level 6 (SAQA ID 57977), and the Occupational  Certificate Fraud Examiner on NQF level 8 (SAQA ID 101868) for which the learning materials were reviewed and approved by Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA) and the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) for the Skills Development Provider, Forensic Academy Africa (Pty) Ltd.


Nick is no stranger to Public Speaking engagements and Strategy and Think-Tank Workshop facilitation in South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius and Rwanda. He presented various multi-day workshops on ethical and risk considerations related to fraud deterrence, detection and response, and other Anti-Fraud-related topics and Risk Management in line with ISO 31000:2018, IEC/IOS 31010:2019 and ISO 37001:2020.


The Australian Journal of Forensic Sciences (Volume 51, 2019, Pages S285-S288. ISSN: 0045-0618 (Print) 1834-562X (Online)) commended me in an article called “SAAFS: the establishment of a representative body for forensic science in South Africa.” I also published some articles on LinkedIn titled “How effective is online education and to what extent can online courses replace traditional classroom teaching?”, “Critical Examination of the Role of Leadership in Devising an Innovative Curriculum”, “Part 1: The Status Of Forensic Tertiary Education In South Africa: Collaborative Competency Development”, Part 2: The Status Of Forensic Tertiary Education In South Africa: Collaborative Competency Development”, and “Part 3: The Status Of Forensic Tertiary Education In South Africa: Collaborative Competency Development”. 


Nick is a member of the African Association of Threat Assessment Professionals (AFATAP), the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE), the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI), and the South African Academy of Forensic Sciences (SAAFS).
